Rob Vincent, Candidate for House of Delegates, District 99 Statement on Berkeley County Data Center Announcement

Charles Town, WV — “The newly announced $4 billion data center project in Berkeley County is a major undertaking with the potential to shape our region for decades.
But right now, too many critical details remain undisclosed—including the identity of the end user, the long‑term job outlook, and the full impact on our infrastructure, utilities, and quality of life. West Virginians should never be asked to celebrate a project while being kept in the dark about its most basic details.”
“Economic development must be transparent, accountable, and centered on the needs of the people who live and work here. That means clear disclosure of who is coming into our communities, honest reporting on energy and water demands, and a tax structure that ensures the public—not just private developers—benefits from this investment.”
“As a former union president, I stand firmly with West Virginia workers and with the IBEW. A project of this scale must guarantee the use of skilled, licensed union labor, uphold prevailing‑wage standards, and create real pathways for local apprenticeships. Our state should never subsidize low‑wage subcontracting or out‑of‑state labor on projects built with public incentives.”
“Responsible growth requires constitutional stewardship, fair taxation, and genuine community partnership. We can welcome innovation and investment while still insisting on transparency, worker protections, and respect for the character of our communities. As Delegate for District 99, I will fight for economic development that strengthens our region, protects working families, and ensures that what we build today leaves West Virginia stronger tomorrow.”
